Baltic Cup 2009 goes to Finland and Latvia

With the victories of Finland Markku Uusipaavalniemi and Latvia’s Evita Regza teams in finals finished Baltic Cup 2009.

Team Uusipaavalniemi, winners of Europeans 2000 defeated Latvia’s Team Smilga in the final with result 7-2, also third place goes to Latvia, to Team Regza which defeated Poland Team Detyniecki 4-3 in Bronze medal game.

In ladies competition Latvia’s Team Regza in very exciting game defeated Finland’s Team Vogt with result 7-5. It was fourth straight win for Team Regza in all four Baltic Cup editions. Third place goes to Team Nekrasova from Russia defeated Poland Team in the Bronze medal game. With full ranking and results please see Results section in web page.

It was fourth Baltic Cup tournament, this year attracted record number of teams (19) and nations (6) and was remarkable with noticeable increase of quality of the game, very good ice conditions, off ice atmosphere and attendance of highest ECF authorities, Mr.President Andrew Ferguson-Smith, Mr.Olli Rissanen and Mr.Konstantin Zadvornov.

Special thanks to Oulunkyla Curling club and Markku Uusipavalniemi for excellent ice quality, organization of competition and warm welcome in newly built curling club in Helsinki outskirts, thanks to Finnish Curling association, Umpiring team for professional umpiring (Chief Umpire Olli Rissanen) and sponsor Anton Porotikov for prize for first place – special split time measuring equipment.
